Have your say on Tasmania’s next Cat Management Plan.

The Tasmanian Government is calling for community feedback on cat management across the state with the release of the Cat Management in Tasmania – Discussion Paper.

This Discussion Paper explores the key challenges and considerations in managing domestic, stray and feral cats, and is seeking feedback on potential options for improvement.

Community and stakeholder feedback will be used to inform the development of the next Tasmanian Cat Management Plan. The Plan will guide cat management across the state for the next five years.

Consultation closes 5pm, Friday 15 May 2026. Don't miss out!

To read the Discussion Paper and find out how to have your say, visit the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania website: https://nre.tas.gov.au/cat-management

Cat - TassieCat

Cats are an important part of our community. They make wonderful pets and provide endless joy, comfort and support for many owners. But if we don’t manage them well, cats can also be a nuisance in our community and a threat to our native wildlife.

TassieCat encourages all Tasmanians to become responsible cat owners. We provide expert advice and useful resources to help you keep your cat safe, healthy and happy while protecting our wildlife and our communities.

There have been recent changes to the Cat Management Act 2009. Visit our legislation page and find out what this means for you!

Scruffy the Cat is part of our campaign to promote responsible cat ownership in Tasmania. He stars in a four-part video series that highlights the amazing personalities of cats and the best ways you can look after them.
